Intervention Techniques - FLIES

Physical
  • Electrical bug zapper
  • Fly baits/paper traps that contains a fly attractant or (pheromone" called muscamone that attracts flies
  • Light traps
Chemical
  • Sprays containing pyrethrum
  • Time release misters that dispense pyrethrum on a regular basis
Biological
  • Fly predators are tiny, nocturnal, stingless wasps that lay eggs then use the pupa as food, thereby destroying the eggs and preventing them from hatching

Intervention Techniques- Cockroaches

Physical
  • Seal cracks, crevices, holes in walls and floors with cement to close their hideouts and breeding places
  • Destroy egg-capsules before they are hatched
  • Cockroach baits
  • Sticky traps
  • Vacuuming
  • Cold treatment for five days
Chemical
  • Boric and dust
  • hydramethylnon, abamectin of fipronil gel
  • Aerosol or liquid products (common active ingredients include permethrin, deltamethrin, cyflethrin, and cypermethrin)
Biological
  • Wasps attack the egg cases, adult and nymphal cockroaches
  • Houses centipede - probably the most effective control of cockroaches, through most homeowners find the centipedes themselves objectionable

Physical
  • Rat traps
  • Glue boards
  • Bait Stations
  • Ultrasonic Repellants
  • Flooding out
Chemical
  • Single dose bait poisons (strychnine, Zinc Phosphide, Scilliroside Glycoside)
  • Multiple dose bait poisons (Bromethalin, Fumarin, Warfarin, Valone, other anti-coagulants)
Biological
  • Sarcocystis singaporensis, a parasite native to Southeast Asia, significantly increases mortality or rats
  • Introduction of natural predators

Intervention Techniques - WEEVILS

Physical
  • temperature extreme
  • modified atmospheres
  • diatomaceous earth (may be less effective for adult beetles with hard exoskeleton)
  • Pheromone traps
  • mechanical forces
Chemical
  • Surface treatments. (powders, paints, surface sprays) Insecticides (pyrethroids, organophosphates, carbamates, etc.) - long residual effects
  • Space treatment. (aerosols, fogs, fine mists) Insecticides (pyrethroids, organophosphates, carbametes, etc) - quick knockdown
  • Fumigation. (lethal gasses) Highly poisonous gaseous substances (Hydrogen Phosphide, Hydrogen Cyanide, Methyl Bromide, Ethylene Oxide)
Biological
  • B.t. - Bacillus thuringiensis
